Post 54 – The First Alarm: Recognizing Danger After Moving to Texas
After moving to Texas on December 21, 2012, and before Esther was born, I lived with Jeff at his mother’s house. During this time, early signs of Jeff’s dangerous behavior became clear.
Although I was still processing what was happening, my father’s concern and the growing unease in the household were unmistakable.
This period marked the beginning of a long and painful journey of recognizing the true nature of the abuse.
Early Warning Signs
- Increased Control: Jeff’s need to dominate conversations, decisions, and space intensified
- Emotional Volatility: Frequent mood swings and outbursts created a tense environment
- Isolation: I was cut off from support and information, deepening my vulnerability
- Dismissal of Concerns: Jeff minimized or ignored warnings from family and friends
Tactics Breakdown – Recognizing Early Danger
- Control Escalation: Gradual increase in dominance and surveillance
- Emotional Abuse Beginnings: Signs of manipulation, gaslighting, and intimidation
- Support Isolation: Preventing connection to outside allies and resources
- Warning Dismissal: Undermining or discrediting early external concerns
